Thank you Steven, for the well written response to the morning’s e- mails.
I think that everyone should attend the Jan. 21 and vote Yes or No on the contract. That is the place to settle the issue. The negotiating team, of which I was part, negotiated in good faith for all members of the association. The contract is the best that we could accomplish in these economic times. We spent many nights and long hours trying to get the best that we could for our members. If it is not good enough, then you should vote no and stop bashing fellow members. We are supposed to be professionals who have the same common goals but when I read these nasty e-mails I realize that we are not.
As to the matter of changing the bylaws–the association has business to handle at each meeting. If nothing can ever be voted on, this cannot happen. Changing the bylaws is a logical thing to do after YEARS, and I mean YEARS of not having a quorum to vote. It is not a reflection on our current leadership at all. If people cannot or will not attend meeting, then something must be done.

I feel badly that many of us cannot make it to such an important meeting, today. Perhaps in the future we could add to our bylaws an option to vote by proxy. Or perhaps each school’s union representatives could ask for volunteers to hold the meeting at the school that they are housed, rather than having each of us at one location. This could always be done promptly after a faculty meeting, preferably one that isn’t running late : ^ )
